The Downtown Concert Series is proud to introduce another season full of music that challenges you, entertains you, and expands your musical palette. The Downtown Concert Series is committed to bringing extraordinary musical artists to the intimate and historic venue at St. Peter’s Church in Freehold, NJ.
Kicking off the series on September 24th , piano virtuoso Vyacheslav Gryaznov, brings his unique and compelling style to the stage. He is one is one of the most accomplished and sought-after musicians among the new generation of Russian pianists. He is an artist of the Moscow Philharmonic Society and is known as the composer of numerous concert transcriptions which have become popular all over the world. Music Life Magazine states, “there can be no doubt that Vyacheslav Gryaznov is one of the great wonders of modern pianism”.
The concert series continues on November 19th with the most inventive and exciting young guitar ensemble today, Mobius Trio. Since the Trio’s inception in 2010, they have made a name as one of the Bay Area’s best and hottest young ensembles. Mobius Trio’s mission is to use the most popular, ubiquitous instrument in the world, the guitar, to create a new lexicon of music. They collaborate with composers and other musicians to commission pieces that reflect this beautiful musical schizophrenia: classical, punk, bebop, metal, folk, hardcore, and many other genres. One minute, they are premiering a new classical guitar trio by Brazilian guitar legend Sergio Assad and the next they’re using electric guitars to create a droning wave of feedback in Nick Vasallo’s Dark Matter.
On February 18, 2017, America's pre-eminent boychoir, The American Boychoir will fill our stage. The choir has long been recognized as one of the finest musical ensembles in the country. Boys in fourth through eighth grades, reflecting the ethnic, religious and cultural diversity of the United States, come from across the country and around the world to pursue a rigorous musical and academic curriculum at the American Boychoir School in Princeton. The choir's young soloists are also in high demand and have joined forces with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, and Spoleto Festival USA, to name a few. The Downtown Concert Series is pleased to be included as one of their 100 concerts stops this year.
The Akropolis Reed Quintet will close this season on May 13, 2017. The quintet takes listeners on extraordinary musical adventures, performing an innovative repertoire with acclaimed precision.
